There are almost 1000 hearing impaired persons in Bharuch District out of which 300 are children, and yet till Dhwani was established, there was no a single school for children with any hearing impairments. Some of these children would be enrolled in regular schools with hearing children, with the hope that they would somehow fit in, but after the 2nd or 3rd std. the children with hearing loss couldn’t cope and would have to leave school.
Seeing the plight of these children, the trustees started Dhwani with the focused intention of providing a formal education that would give them a chance to better future.
