There are almost 1000 hearing impaired persons in Bharuch District out of which 300 are children, and yet till Dhwani was established, there was no a single school for children with any hearing impairments.
Some of these children would be enrolled in regular schools with hearing children, with the hope that they would somehow fit in, but after the 2nd or 3rd std. the children with hearing loss couldn’t cope and would have to leave school.
Seeing the plight of these children, the trustees started Dhwani with the focused intention of providing a formal education that would give them a chance to better future.
What Kind of children does DHWANI serve?
Children with any form of hearing impairment, who cannot attend regular schools, and therefore miss out on their basic right to education. 27500 children are born with hearing inability every year, of which only 35% get access to education.
Most of these belong to the economically weaker section of society. Many of their parents have not had an education themselves, so we also provide guidance to their families.
